Poderi dal Nespoli ‘Il Nespoli’ Sangiovese di Romagna Superiore Riserva ’17

Winemaker Notes

This Sangiovese has an intense red ruby color and demonstrates a well-structured and ripe character. It is a wine of great complexity combining typical cherry, blackberry and plum notes of the Sangiovese variety together with notes of licorice and roasted coffee beans which come from the aging in French barrique, following by stainless steel tanks. A touch of vanilla is coming from the wise but modest use of American oak. Soft and warm, with well-balanced tannins, it has an excellent potential for aging.

One could pair this wine well with many foods including venison, game, beef cheek braised with wine, grilled T-bone steak, seasoned hard cheese.

The name of this wine celebrates the historical village of Nespoli where the winery was founded in 1929 and where the production of its wines, from the vineyards to the glass, still continues today.

About the Winery

Poderi dal Nespoli is located in the Bidente Valley, on the hills of Forlì, about 177 meters above sea level, an area that connects the Apennines to the Adriatic coast. Historical point of passage, this land offers places of naturalistic interest, such as the Park of Casentino Forests, and excellent pedoclimatic characteristics for the production of high quality wines. It is here that we cultivate our vineyards, here we live every day in the spirit of this generous, tasty and welcoming land.

The Ravaioli family has guided and developed Poderi dal Nespoli through several generations. Poderi dal Nespoli was established in 1929 by Attilio Nespoli, who took on his father’s wine merchant business and invested in the first plot of land. The company has been developed throughout the post-war period and now the next generations Ravaioli have taken the reins and continue the family business.

Poderi dal Nespoli is located in the Bidente River Valley, a gem set just inland of the “Romagna Riviera” almost hidden away. The valley connects Forlì to the Apennine mountainsides between Romagna and Tuscany. Over time this ancient valley has served as an important connection between Romagna and Tuscany.

The winemaking team at Nespoli specializes in small lot artisanal Sangiovese production and have twice been awarded the coveted Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri for their efforts.
